La violoncelliste britannique Lydia Shelley s’est formée auprès de Hannah Roberts au Royal Northern College of Music et de Richard Lester au Royal College of Music, avec Christopher Rowland et Günter Pichler parmi ses principaux mentors en musique de chambre. Membre fondatrice du Finzi Quartet, elle rejoint ensuite le Quatuor Voce, basé à Paris, avec lequel elle se produit pendant dix ans sur des scènes telles que la Philharmonie de Paris, le Wigmore Hall, le Concertgebouw et l’Elbphilharmonie, et participe à une importante discographie saluée par la critique internationale.

Depuis son départ du Quatuor Voce en 2023, Lydia développe une activité artistique plurielle, entre répertoire soliste, musique de chambre et projets interdisciplinaires. Elle interprète notamment les intégrales des sonates pour violoncelle et piano de Beethoven et des six Suites pour violoncelle seul de Bach, explorées également aux côtés de Gary Hoffman et de la compositrice Graciane Finzi, ainsi que les grands concertos de Dvořák, Elgar, Schumann et Saint-Saëns, dont le Concerto d’Elgar au Mexique sous la direction d’Alondra de la Parra. Membre fondatrice du Trio Zénon, elle collabore également avec l’auteur-compositeur-interprète Piers Faccini dans Song Lines, autour de leurs racines musicales britanniques communes, et avec la compagnie de théâtre Collectif Eudaimonia comme violoncelliste, directrice musicale et interprète dans Roméo et Juliette de Shakespeare. Son travail actuel accorde une place centrale aux Suites de Bach, qu’elle interprète sur violoncelle moderne et violoncelle piccolo à cinq cordes.

British cellist Lydia Shelley studied with Hannah Roberts at the Royal Northern College of Music and Richard Lester at the Royal College of Music, with Christopher Rowland and Günter Pichler among her most important chamber music mentors. A founding member of the Finzi Quartet, she later spent a decade with the Paris-based Quatuor Voce, performing at venues including the Philharmonie de Paris, Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw and Elbphilharmonie, and contributing to an extensive, internationally acclaimed discography.

Since leaving the Quatuor Voce in 2023, Lydia has developed an increasingly diverse artistic life encompassing solo, chamber and cross-disciplinary work. Recent projects include complete cycles of Beethoven’s cello sonatas and Bach’s six Suites for solo cello, the latter also explored in collaboration with Gary Hoffman and composer Graciane Finzi, alongside concerto appearances in repertoire by Dvořák, Elgar, Schumann and Saint-Saëns, including Elgar’s Concerto in Mexico with Alondra de la Parra. She is a founding member of Trio Zénon, collaborates with singer-songwriter Piers Faccini on Song Lines, a project drawing on their shared British musical heritage, and is cellist, musical director and performer in the theatre company Collectif Eudaimonia’s production of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Her current work includes a continuing exploration of Bach’s Suites, performed on both modern and five-string piccolo cello.
